You can like or dislike Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – I dug it just fine – but it did one thing right that the franchise has been crying out for since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. In the closing minutes of the movie, dinosaurs were finally unleashed on the wider world.

It only took, what, 20-odd years? Michael Crichton opened that prehistoric Pandora’s box at the end of the first novel, people. Granted, he never followed up on it, but at least he knew the incredible potential his dinosaurs-run-amok airport thriller portended: dinos going wild in the modern world, and ordinary people having to deal with them.

So now, in the year of our lord 2019, that’s what we’ve finally got, thanks to the new short film Battle at Big Rock, coming at us completely unexpectedly from director Colin Trevorrow, who is even now pulling together the third, as yet untitled, Jurassic World movie (there will almost certainly be a colon involved, though). Check it out:

Pretty good, huh?

Written by Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael,  “…the short takes place one year after the events of the last Jurassic World film in Big Rock National Park, where dinosaurs are now living in our world. The story follows a family of four whose encounter with these wild animals becomes a terrifying fight for survival.” Stick around for the credits to see more of that kinda thing, and get pumped for Jurassic World 3, due some time in 2021.
