Weird that it’s already been four years since The Witch (or The VVitch if you’re a wanker), David Eggers’ ripper of a historical horror. Now, at long last, we’ve got a look at his next effort, a black and white two hander that sees future Batman and past Green Goblin go a little nuts in a lonely lighthouse, with the odd Lovecraftian tentacle in the trailer hinting at more macabre forces underpinning the action. Or, as the official synopsis would have it:

“From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror masterpiece The Witch, comes this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.”

We like ours better, too.

Also of interest is Cold Skin, a 2017 effort from French director Xavier Gens (Frontier(s)), which covers similar territory. Probably a coincidence. You be the judge.
