During this year’s Power-Con convention in Anaheim, California, filmmaker Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) announced he is teaming up with Netflix to create a reboot of the 1980s animated series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

The original series took place on the magical planet Eternia and saw the lead character Prince Adam, armed with the Sword of Power and yelling the classic line “By the Power of Grayskull!”, transformed into the powerful He-Man. The hero defended Eternia from the evil Skeletor. Skeletor’s main goal was to conquer the mysterious fortress of Castle Grayskull and, if successful, Skeletor would have enough power to rule all of Eternia and the universe. Based on a toy line, the series boasted a large and marketable supporting cast, including characters such as Battle Cat, The Sorceress and Teela,

Revelation will pick up where the 1980s series finished off. In what will be a more adult series that will hopefully help us to forget that ‘HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA’ meme, Smith says Revelation will “…tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! This is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”

Production company Mattel Television will produce the series, and writers will include Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Marc Bernardin (Alphas) and Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen). Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania, Seis Manos) will oversee animation for the series.

The cast release date is yet to be announced, but we’ll be keeping an eye out!
