After years of anticipation, the Mortal Kombat movie has officially begun filming in Australia. News of the development came to light when the writer of the movie, Greg Russo, revealed pictures from set earlier this week via his twitter. The Mortal Kombat reboot movie is being filmed in South Australia, and will be the largest production ever shot in the area. Behind it will be director Simon McQuoid, with noted Australian horror auteur and Aquaman director James Wan producing.

Not much about the plot of this new Mortal Kombat movie has been made public just yet, but we have learned about some of the cast. The film will star Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Bridges, and Tadanobu Asano as Raiden. This is the first Mortal Kombat movie that has been worked on since 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, which is largely remembered as a failure.
While this movie has finally started filming, Mortal Kombat isn’t planned to arrive on theatrical release until March 5, 2021.
