Australia’s premiere horror and genre film festival FANGORIA x MONSTER FEST 2019: MONSTER TAKES AUSTRALIA has revealed its first wave of programming, featuring twelve of the freshest and fearless features from around the globe.
FANGORIA x MONSTER FEST 2019: MONSTER TAKES AUSTRALIA will run simultaneously around the country at Event Cinemas from Thursday October 31st to Sunday November 3rd in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Sydney.
Each festival is a four-day weekend featuring screenings, special events and filmmaker Q&A’s, all built around a program of diverse and highly imaginative genre films; a celebration of the latest and greatest cinema from around the world.
The 2019 line-up includes:
V.F.W.: Joe Begos’ intense, claustrophobic and gore-drenched dystopian actioner V.F.W. sees a group of war veterans defend their local post from a relentless assault by a maniacal drug dealer and his heinous gang of crazed criminals.
SATANIC PANIC: Gore galore and laughs abound in Chelsea Stardust’s feature debut, SATANIC PANIC, that follows a pizza delivery girl’s fight for life as her last order lands her in the midst of a satanic ritual.
VIVARIUM: A young couple’s dream of owning their own home quickly turns into a living nightmare in Lorcan Finnegan’s unsettling and expertly crafted VIVARIUM, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots.
PORNO: Keola Racela’s PORNO is a glorious throwback to the gross-out horror-comedies of the 80s/90s that sees five teenagers do battle with an alluring succubus after unwittingly unleashing her from a mysterious 35mm film print.
RABID: A revolutionary medical treatment transforms a hideously disfigured woman into something that is as beautiful as it is deadly in RABID, the Twisted Twins Jen & Sylvia Soska’s bold reimagining of the David Cronenberg classic.
DEERSKIN: Abstract auteur Quentin Dupieux’s DEERSKIN is a wonderfully weird and hilarious tale of obsession as a man posing as a filmmaker turns to a life crime in his quest to be the only one in the world to wear a jacket…that’s right a jacket!
BLISS: A hallucinatory, carnage-laden horror that follows a brilliant young painter suffering from artist’s block as she traverses the sleazy underbelly of Los Angeles in search of curious stimuli.
THE FURIES: Tony D’Aquino’s THE FURIES subverts the classic tale of THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME into a slick and savage slasher film that finds an innocent woman an unwilling participant in a game of survive or die with a gang of masked killers.
DOGS DON’T WEAR PANTS: A widower mends his broken heart with a dominatrix seeking her own like-minded connection in J.-P. Valkeapää’s DOGS DON’T WEAR PANTS, a darkly funny and surprisingly sweet take on grief, emotional redemption and the recuperative qualities of a golden shower.
RIOT GIRLS: Filmmaker Jovanka Vuckovic makes her feature directorial debut with RIOT GIRLS, a dystopian vision of 1995 whereby a virus has wiped out the adult population, leaving kids to fend for themselves and against one another.
BLOOD VESSEL: Special effects maverick Justin Dix steps back into the director’s chair for his sophomore feature, BLOOD VESSEL, a harrowing high seas horror that pits a motley crew of shipwreck survivors against an ancient evil aboard an abandoned Nazi warship.
TWO HEADS CREEK: Jesse O’Brien’s hilariously macabre and delightfully irreverent TWO HEADS CREEK sees a pair of British siblings stranded in a rural town where the ghoulish locals have a sinister means of dealing with immigration.
